From the Heart
John and I decided to build Buena Vista Wildlife Safari and RV Park so that we could share our love of nature with others. When I was little, I remember going to my grandparent’s house. My grandfather was a farmer and a carpenter. I would spend hours left mostly to my own devices. My grandparents didn’t have plastic playgrounds or electronic devices (or even air conditioning!). But they had a huge orchard and garden; plenty of lumber and sticks to build forts and other projects; lots of sand in the yard that worked as a sandbox; and endless opportunities to use my imagination.
In our highly structured world today, children are never “bored.” But research shows that boredom is really good for kids: it improves creativity; it leads to a healthier mental outlook; and it makes kids more motivated. There is an adage that “only boring people get bored.” Our goal at Buena Vista is to help you reconnect with nature. To slow down. To relearn how to count the flowers, or the stars, or even the bison!
In the next few months, I’ll be sharing some more of our vision for Buena Vista. And as always, we’d love your comments and suggestions. What do you want to see? What activities would you like us to add? We love hearing from you. Let’s keep in touch… we’ll leave the stars on for you!
